Natural Skincare by Sidra Shaukat at lulu.com Make your own face masks

When we think of a spa, the first thing we think of is the face and body covered with a green mud mask. Mud is fantastic for drawn out impurities from the skin to leave it glowing. A shower afterwards, as cold as you can bear, does wonders for the circulation.

I make a green clay and turmeric mask (turmeric is the yellow spice used in curries that is a great cleanser) by mixing one heaped tablespoon of green clay with 1 teaspoon of turmeric and mixing in live yoghurt or water if you prefer to make it a thick paste. If you have dry skin, you may want to add a little almond oil as required. This is enough for the face, make larger amounts for the body.

For oily skins, make a clay mask by mixing 1 whisked egg white with 1 tablespoon of fuller’s earth (from chemists). Add a few drops of peppermint oil. Leave to dry and rinse with lukewarm water.

For dry skins, whisk 1 egg white, mix with 1 teaspoon of honey. Put on with a pastry brush and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off with cold water. The egg white gives this mask it’s firming effect.

Your bath could be the equivalent of the spa bath for it’s treatment properties. Cleopatra bathed in ass’s milk to maintain her beauty, you can do the same too! Instead of ass’s milk, you can add 1/4 pint of milk to the running water, or try 2 tablespoons of dried milk for the same effect. For added indulgence, a few drops of coconut essence will give the bath a tropical feel or try a few drops of coconut essence.

You can even create the effect of being in a thermal mud bath, as they do in Iceland, known for it’s therapeutic effects, but just adding two or three tablespoons of green clay or fuller’s earth to the running warm water. Soak for as long as you can for maximum benefit.

Sink into a warm bath scented with essential oils such as ylang-ylang, patchouli or rosemary(to clear the head) and lavendar, rose or camomile(to relax and soothe). Make sure the water is not too hot, as this overstimulates the nervous system and reduces the oils therapeutic powers. To make this indulgent soak extra special, put on some soft, soothing music, dim the lights in the bathroom and relax.

A Common Sense Acne Solution

While acne is most often experienced during the teenage years, its effects can be long lasting. Pimples and pustules can leave scars that remain even after acne treatment.

Most people are bothered by these scars. There are many methods to hide them. Many people use makeup, hairstyles, or facial hair to cover their scars.

Acne Scar Treatment Innovations

Advancements in dermatology and cosmetology have brought about new forms of acne treatment to repair scars.

During dermabrasion the skin is numbed and scraped with a diamond edged tool. This procedure can take between 30 minutes and an hour. Complete recovery happens within a few weeks.

An easier procedure is the chemical peel which uses acids to remove the skin’s top layer. This is most effective on mild scars and usually needs to be repeated for optimal results.

The punch technique is a surgical innovation. There are three variations on this technique. The punch replacement technique is the most effective method for deep scars. It removes scars and replaces them with grafts. The punch excision technique removes the scar but lets the wound heal. The final method is the punch elevation technique which cuts the scar loose and allows it to float to the surface.

Social pressures are rarely felt more intensely than during the teenage years. Trying to adjust to changing trends and peer expectations every day can be a daunting task; for many teenagers acne is one more major crisis with which to contend. Low self-esteem, anxiety, and even depression are typical responses in teenagers who struggle with this condition.

A single, exact cause of acne has not yet been determined. It is more likely that a variety of factors combine to cause acne: diet, stress, hormones, vitamin deficiencies, and biology. Because most of these issues seem to culminate during the teenage years, it is very common for people of this age to experience skin problems. There is no “miracle pill” out there, despite the best efforts of many scientists to pinpoint an acne solution.

The Best Treatment Consists of Regular Cleansing

Most over the counter facial cleansers contain the chemicals benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Making good use of these types of products can allow the skin to stay naturally clear without the side effects that come with some prescription medications.

For best results, allow these products to soak into a dry face for about fifteen minutes after application. To prevent harmful drying out of the skin, always follow up with a moisturizer.

When trying to work out an acne solution, remember that scrubbing too much and the use of washcloths or towels on the face will make matters worse. You want to try to keep the skin from becoming irritated. Excessive make-up or sun exposure, continually picking at pimples, or letting oily hair repeatedly brush across the face can all cause irritation.

Are you one of the many people suffering from acne scarring?? If you are and want immediate relief, go right now to treatment for acne scarring for the life changing information that is waiting for you there.

How To Sport A Younger Look This Summer?

The primary cause for the development of aging signs like wrinkles and fine lines on your face is prolonged and unprotected exposure to sunlight. And during the summer months, the damage is highly increased because of the strong intensity of the sun’s rays. Also, when you swim in salt water oceans and chlorine pools in addition to spending time in the humid hot weather, your skin suffers. So, if you want to keep your skin younger looking and prevent all sun damage, you need to practice effective skin care tips and make sure that you are protected against the sunlight. You can get professional facials, follow an effective summer skin care regimen and make it a point to take good care of your skin all through the season.

Here are some things that you should consider and follow during the summer season.

Always wear Sunscreen!

This is probably the most repeated skin care advice. However, as many times it is said it is only to reinforce its importance. It is extremely important to wear a sunscreen all through the day regardless of the fact that you are exposed to the sun or not.

If slathering on too many skin care products makes your skin greasy, then consider using a moisturizer with SPF. Make sure it contains a minimum of SPF 30. some women believe that using a product with higher SPF would guarantee them better protection against the sun. this is not true though. An SPF 30 product gives you 96% protection while SPF 50 gets you 98% protection. The difference is only marginal. Products with higher SPF only have higher quantities of chemicals .

What really matters is how often you apply the sunscreens. Ideally, you should reapply the sunscreen after every two to three hours while outdoors, especially if you have been swimming , exercising or have been sweating a lot. Moreover, sunscreens tend to sweat off in the summer heat and therefore, its important you wear protective clothing , sunglasses and hats to help guard against the damaging sun rays.

What is worst is sun bathing and sun tanning beds. They tend to damage the skin even more and accelerate the process of premature aging. Therefore make sure you avoid them at all costs.

Combat the problem of Oily Summer Skin

Another common complaint during summer months is that of oily skin. Because of the summer heat and humid temperatures, the skin becomes increasingly oily and greasy. The solution to the problem is using light and oil-free skin care products. Use a good cleanser, preferably one containing potent ingredients like alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid or salicylic acid to cleanse your face. This will gently exfoliate your skin while keeping it moisturized at the same time. You can try the La Roche-Posay Biomedic LHA Cleansing Gel. It purifies the skin and helps to stimulate exfoliation. It evens out the skin tone, helps remove dead skin cells and helps with acne breakouts for a brighter complexion.
Wash your face at least thrice a day – once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once at night. Also, avoid wearing heavy make-up, especially oil based foundations that would make the skin oily. Another thing that you should avoid doing is using bar soaps on your face. The soaps have strong ingredients that strip off water and natural oils from the skin and leave it dehydrated. And to compensate for the lack of moisture, the skin cells produce more sebum (oil) and thus leads to increased oiliness.

Because of the increased oil production in the summer months, the skin is highly susceptible to acne and breakouts. Breakouts can lead to cystic acne along the chin and jawline areas. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet and drink lots and lots of water.

Treat Rough and Scaly Skin

Summer heat can damage your skin and make it look rough and scaly. So, you need to exfoliate your skin and remove the dead skin cells from the surface in order to brighten your complexion. Use a scrub or exfoliating product like Obagi Nu-Derm Exfoderm Forte or Obagi Nu-Derm Exfoderm (depending on your skin type) and exfoliate your skin about twice a week. There are variety of scrubs and peels you can choose from. Try the Nia 24 Physical Cleansing Scrub. It contains Pro-Niasomes and removes dead skin cells and calms, hydrates as well as soothes the skin.

Oily Skin Care

We all have different skin types, so we need different skin care routine. It is essential to pay attention on this fact, because treating skin with products that don’t match the skin, will only lead to further damages. In this case, it makes the skin even more oily. So here are the best tips and tricks to maintain a healthy looking skin for those who are prone to the oily type.

http://static.becomegorgeous.com/img/articles/natural_skin_firming_methods.jpg

The Proper Care for Oily Skin

First of all, as we already mentioned, you should be sure about the products you are using. Don’t try to dry out your skin, thinking it’s the best solution to a matte look. It’s only making your skin produce even more natural moisture and bring to an even more oily skin. So choose the proper skin care products and don’t wash your skin to often.

Keep a normal routine. Cleanse, tone and moisturize. Keep in mind that oily skin needs to be moisturized as well. Again, it’s just a matter of a proper moisturizer you are using. Make sure it’s a lighter one, that is specially developed for oily skin type.

Makeup for Oily Skin

Start by cleansing your face, tone and moisturize. Apply a concealer to hide dark under-eye circles, a primer to clear your face and avoid getting your eye shadow creased. Than even out your complexion with a foundation. Make sure you choose the wright shade, in order to avoid the mask effect. If you cannot find a good shade, you can also mix up two different tones to get the shade you want. This way, you can get it darker or lighter each time your skin is fading or getting tanned

Eye shadow will stay on for longer if you used the primer, mascara can be waterproof to, but keep in mind that waterproof cosmetics are causing more damages because of their concentrated formula.

Set the foundation with a loose powder that will also provide a matte finish. You might need to refresh it, in case your skin gets shiny during the day. Pat your face from the excess of oil and settle it with some powder.

The main idea would be to control your skin and do your best in treating it. Don’t try to dry it out, because it will cause you more problems, stimulating your skin to produce even more oil. Stay at the normal skin care routine, just make sure you are using the right products. Cleanse your face twice a day, maximum 3 times a day in case you get dirty or feel like your pores are getting clogged. Rather opt for patting your skin that washing it to often.

Don’t be afraid of using makeup, but use a primer to make it long lasting.

An oily skin need just as much attention as dry or normal skin. It’s just the products we use that are different. So don’t panic, but make sure you have a good routine that matches your skin type.

Winter Skin Care Routine

When keeping a well known skin care routine, it might seem hard to get changes in it. But in order to keep your body nice and healthy, make sure you made the best choices for your skin. These are the basic tips you should know about.

http://static.becomegorgeous.com/img/arts/2009/Oct/08/1314/tanned_skin.jpg

The Proper routine

There are three essential steps in each skin care routine: cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

Adjust these steps to the winter damaging factors and your skin will keep its youthful appearance. When you cleanse, make sure you are doing it gently, because skin will get more sensitive from the cold. If you make further damages, the bacterias will spread out and breakouts will appear.

Also, find a lighter toner, that will only finish the cleansing step and close your pores.

As for the moisturizer, choose a creamier one, which will deep nourish your skin. You can opt for some homemade facials which will also hydrate as best as possible with their 100% natural ingredients.

Protect Your Skin

Just as in summer, there are some external factors your should protect your skin from. First of all, make sure you keep hydrating yourself, by drinking plenty of water and moisturizing your skin as best as possible. Even if you have oily skin, keep on moisturizing, to provide comfort to your skin.

Gently exfoliate your skin once in a while, to remove all the dead skin cells left on your face. But make sure once again not to harm your skin, and you can opt for the homemade scrubs to.

Stay away as best as possible from the wind and cold, wear scarfs and keep your skin in warm.

Use a sunscreen to maintain a good protection from the UV rays. This will keep your skin youthful and fresh as it is.

Protect your lips to. Being always exposed to the cold and other weather issues, your lips might get dry and chapped. Opt for a lip balm as an everyday use, even as a lipstick base. This way the lips will stay hydrated to and wrinkle free.

Also, another important thing to be careful with, is the water you take your shower with. Opt for the lukewarm one instead of extra hot water. This way your skin maintains its natural moisture and wont get damaged because of the big temperature gap.

Winter ha sits own harming factors, so do your best in avoiding them, in protecting and treating your skin right. Moisturize as often as needed, boost your body with all the vitamins it needs and you’ll be safe. Make sure you provide enough attention to your skin, in order to avoid damaged skin and appearance of aging signs.

pls help! oily skin and pimples :S i’ve tried almost everything?

Question by AngeliK: pls assist! greasy skin and pimples :S i’ve tried about everything?
ok ok so yeah i’m hitting 18 so don’t be thinking, oh you’re still young and starting puberty so it’s normal etc… i don’t wanna be stuck with acne/pimples entering into my adult hood, because females end puberty at 18 i’ve been told and the pimple scars are ugly.anyway, i was lucky enough to be “blessed” with my mother’s skin type, which yes is oily :S and i’m convinced it is because of its oiliness that helps cause my random and constant breakouts.i use Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets to “take care” of that oily problem however i have also heard that taking away the natural oils of the skin makes it produce even more oil to replace it…so i have NO idea how this is gonna work? i mean the oil absorbing sheets DO absorb but is that causing the oiliness at the same time too?well… i’ve tried what feels like a million products but here’s a list: – ProActiv – Clean and Clear acne control kit – Clearasil skin perfecting wash- Oxy- Stridex- Biore pore unclogging scrub- both the Clean and Clear morning burst cleanser (orange bottle with beads) and the oil control one (which is the same but green instead)- Neutrogena rapid clear 2 in 1 fight and fade gelyeah and amazingly none of them worked.*sighs*i’m considering the skin id regimen cause i’m desperate but if you guys have or know anyone with similar skin problems and have tried the skin id or something else that actually works please let me know!other info: – yes i wear make-up. but i’ve done my homework, the pressed powder i wear is oil and scent free and doesn’t clog pores- moisturize? i do moisturize my face everyday. well anyhow my moisturizer is spf 15 and is non-greasy so it’s not oily i’m pretty sure- breakouts during periods? well you see i get pimples whenever so to me there is NO difference whatsoever. – eating habits? umm.. i don’t eat like too much of anything like junk food or fast food- sleeping patterns? i will admit i’m more of a night owl but i do try to sleep before 1am unless i have something to do until later… but otherwise i do consider myself to have 8 hrs of sleep :p- i wash my face the morning and at night before i sleep- if i do use any hair product i usually don’t get hair products on my face- what else?

4 of the Best Skincare Products and Procedures to Treat Oily Skin

The times that you wish you hadn’t outshined competition was when your oily skin did all the shining for you. Regardless of age, oily skin is a fact some people have to live with. It usually is brought about by heredity or overactive hormones. Dermatologists say that hormone production stimulates oil production that usually seeps on to the skin. Controlling hormones or who your parents are can be way too tricky to manipulate. However, you don’t have to put up with oily skin because there are ways to control it so that you can replace that shine on your cheeks or forehead with an even glow.

Notice that even the best skincare products for oily skin don’t say “anti-oil”. Instead, they come in the form of “oil-control” products because, believe it or not, fighting it makes it worse. Before you make the mistake of washing all the oil off your skin, read on to find out about the four best skincare products and procedures to treat oily types.

Cleanse
A best skincare practice starts with proper cleansing. If you find all the oil on your face all too yucky, there’s no need to be too harsh on your face. The best skincare products aren’t always the most potent. Dermatologists say that harsh cleansing only stimulates the body to produce more oil. When irritated, particularly oily skin, it acts up and becomes even more oily. Experts also suggest that oily skin is best treated with a gentle cleanser that scours through pores thoroughly. No matter how gentle your cleanser is, the best skincare practice is still to not over-wash your skin. Twice a day should be enough.

Tone
Next to cleansing, toning is the second best skincare practice that will help your skin get a healthy glow. Toners do the task of closing pores. For oily skin, smaller pores help control the flow of oil. When the weather is humid or hot, the pores open up to breathe and this usually causes more oil to come out of the skin. So keep your face cool or use a cooled toner that will control the oiliness of your face.

Moisturize
Step one was to cleanse. Step two, tone. Step three in the tips for best skincare practice is to moisturize. Oil and moisture are two very different things. If you’re uncomfortable with how moisturizers feel on oily skin, then sacrificing a little comfort is a small price to pay. In fact ,oily skin has a slight advantage over other types because it locks in more moisture. The more you moisturize, the more it tightens and the younger you look. The best skincare products will help you moisturize your skin without making it oily.

Exfoliate
If your oily skin causes breakouts and form acne, don’t run to anti-acne quick fixes. These skincare products dry the skin and don’t stop oil from coming out. Dermatologists recommend a deep cleaning exfoliant once a week for a nice thorough cleansing and for getting rid of dead skin.

So whether your skin is oily or not, the best skincare products don’t have to be fancy. What counts is that they suit your skin type. While oily skin requires you to be extra-high maintenance and careful with the topical products, it still holds true that the best skincare routine will include the right cleanser, a toner right for your pores, a moisturizer—preferably oil-free—and an exfoliant. Knowing that you can keep oily skin at bay, and how to control it, gives you that extra confidence boost to outshine others with not oily skin but a radiant glow.
